I start each faceted pendant by making a geometric dot implosion, a starburst of color drawn deep into molten glass. Once the core pattern’s formed, I roll the marble through multiple layers of ground glass dust, then add a deep black backing. I use a mix of solid, translucent, and silver-striking colors to build up a thick, stone-like shell that I’ll later transform through cold working.
Then I use a lapidary flat lap to cut a clean facet into the front, revealing the hidden fractal-like core inside the “geode.” That’s where the real work begins, I spend hours at the wheel, moving through nine stages of grinding from coarse 80 grit all the way up to 3000. It’s a slow, focused process that actually takes me much longer than making the pendant itself. Once the shaping is perfect, I polish with cerium oxide to bring out a gem-like shine. Inside the glass, the intricate geometry is frozen in time, a radiant crystalline pattern suspended forever at its brightest moment.
