This honeycomb pendant is fumed with pure silver that is deeply encased in clear borosilicate glass. To create it, a clear glass tube is flared open, then exposed to vaporized silver from a small ball of metal in the torch flame. The silver bonds to the hot glass, forming ethereal shades of blue, gold, and green within the clear surface. The tube is then sealed and gently inflated into a thin, hollow bubble.
Next, dozens of clear dots are applied in a honeycomb array, pulling the fumed colors inward like a swirling vortex. The bubble is then collapsed and shaped into a solid lens, locking the pattern in place. Finally, the back is coated in deep jet black to enhance the sense of depth and reveal the pendant’s full iridescent rainbow from within.
