This red glass candy ornament looks sweet enough to unwrap, but it’s all sparkle and no sugar. I sculpt each one in the torch flame, starting with a colored glass rod that I coil pot to form a smooth tube. Coil potting is where I melt and wrap the rod in tight spirals, fusing it into a solid walled tube. Once that’s done, I coat the tube in clear glass for extra depth and shine, then blow and stretch it into the shape of a candy.
The clear twisted ends catch the light like frost, while the bright red body glows warmly against your holiday lights. I add stripes of white glass twisted down the middle to mimic the classic candy cane swirl. On this one, I sculpt a tiny grape candy piece onto the surface for a pop of rich color and charm. A golden tinsel string is strung through the top, ready to hang on your Christmas tree.
